It’s a…
A newborn is between 0-4 weeks old. This time period is very important because here is where you and your little cub get to know each other in a physical way. Learning their likes and dislikes as a little human is an important part of their and your life. For example, my first-born loves when his father sang to him when he is fussy, however, my second born prefers to hear background noise (vacuum, ventilator, etc.).
Every baby is different, don’t forget that. Find what works best for your child. I would create a checklist and from top to bottom start checking out the ones that did not help. If you get frustrated, hesitated or overwhelmed, take 5 minutes and try again. It takes time to know your baby.
If your child is fussy, try the following:
Hungry (verify if the last feed was within two hours)
Dirty/wet diaper
Gas (holding the baby and patting their back consistently)
Constipated (rub their stomach in a circular way)
Warm Bath
Rocking the baby
Offer the pacifier
Play soft music
Offer skin-to-skin
Take a drive/stroll
Swaddle them
Check their clothes (as funny as this sounds, sometimes the baby may feel uncomfortable)
Don’t forget, your awesome. You do you.
What works for your little cub?
